Home Modification and Maintenance Services (HMMS) classify their services into three categories:
1. Modifications
2. Maintenance
3. Lawn Mowing and Gardening
The following gives information about how to access each category.
Modifications include work such as the supply and installation of grabrails, handrails, hand held showers and lever taps, widening doorways and building ramps, easy steps, paths and step wedges, etc.
Clients must undertake an assessment by an Occupational Therapist (OT) who will conduct a home visit to assess the client's requirements and make recommendations to the local HMMS on the client's behalf. The HMMS will then contact the client directly.
To locate the nearest Community Health OT, contact details are available from either the local HMMS or Community Health Centre. Assessments carried out by Community Health OTs are free of charge but there may be waiting lists.

If a client requires maintenance in their home specifically related to safety and access (such as repairs to steps, installation and maintenance of smoke alarms, hot water system temperature adjustments or changing the height of beds, tables, chairs etc.) an OT assessment is not required.
Please note that all maintenance provided by HMMS specifically relates to safety and access in the home.
