The Role of State Council

The NSW HMMS State Council initiates a range of strategies and activities in the Home Modification and Maintenance Services (HMMS) industry including:

  • Building capacity initiatives
  • Promoting partnerships and co-operation
  • Policy development
  • Advocacy and lobbying for the industry within the Community Sector - particularly with regard to funding
  • Consultation with the HMMS sector
  • Development and provision of resources to the HMMS industry
  • Provision of advice and information to the HMMS industry
  • Liaison with the primary funding body, Ageing, Disability and Home Care (ADHC), relevant Commonwealth Departments, the Department of Health and Ageing and other politically relevant entities
  • Distribution of funding to HMMS
  • Financial administration of State Council funds and income
  • Liaison amongst and within other NSW peak body organisations
  • Intra and Inter-Sector networking for HMM service providers
  • Co-ordination of HMMS State Conferences and Workshops
  • Identification of projects for the Executive Officer to initiate and complete

State Council also facilitates and develops social entrepreneurship activities including:

  • Organising Occupational Therapy training for the HMMS industry; and
  • Provision of consultancy services.
